BY the time you read this you will be amused and amazed by the scarecrows popping out of hedges or from behind walls throughout the village.

Competitors have gone to a lot of trouble with their creations and I am sure we will all have much enjoyment from them.

LAST Friday the Shaftoe Singers gave a delightful concert at the village hall and their performance was followed by a delicious supper. How fortunate we are to have such talent amongst our villagers.

ON Thursday, August 6, from 1.30pm until 5pm, the inspirational Bridie Jackson will be running a singing workshop, (along with the Hadrian Singers) at Featherstone Castle.

The workshop lasts from 1.30pm until around 5pm, and will concentrate on songs of the sixties – so lots of rock ‘n’ roll.

All singing abilities are welcome. Telephone (01434) 322894, or for more information email maureenhillview@gmail.com

SOUTH Tyne Sustainability group will be holding its third On the Verge walk on Tuesday, August 4.

Meet at the west end of Haresby Lonnen at 7pm, and enjoy good company plus stunning views of the Tyne Valley.

THE next pensioners’ ‘lunch and natter’ at the Bowes Hotel will be on Thursday, August 20, at 12.30pm – there is no need to book – just turn up and enjoy yourself.

ON Friday, August 12, the women’s institute members are off to the Bowes Museum in Durham for their summer outing where they will enjoy the Yves St Laurent exhibition, and, no doubt, our stylish and talented village ladies will be picking up useful tips.

DON’T forget that Saturday, August 15, is the Henshaw with Beltingham Church coffee morning held in the Methodist Church Hall in Haltwhistle. Books, bric-a-brac, raffle and tombola prizes will be needed and if you can help out on the day, you will be particularly welcome.
