THERE has been considerable nibbling of nails this week as our A-level students awaited their results yesterday.

I do hope they have all achieved excellent results for the work they have done and are ready to enter the next phase of their lives.

ARE you looking forward to the village scarecrow hunt yet?

There have been 41 entries and maps of their locations are available from the village shop, for a small fee, and there is also a voting slip at the bottom of the sheet for you to return when you have chosen your favourites.

The scarecrows will be displayed from Friday, August 21, until Tuesday, September 2. Be prepared to be amazed, amused and intrigued by the entries.

TOMORROW is the big coffee morning for the benefit of our village churches and is a major fund-raising event for them.

Do drop in at Haltwhistle Methodist Church Hall from 9.30am until 11.30am to enjoy the company, the coffee and the various stalls.

MEANWHILE, tomorrow morning, keen-eyed Bardon Mill Women’s Institute members will be taking a trip to the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle to see the Yves St Laurent exhibition, and will certainly be ready to pick up styling tips from the master of couture.

BAKERBE creative cookery workshops are scheduled for the school holidays.

Sessions will take place on Wednesday, August 26, Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28 in the village hall.

Find out more at http://www.bakerbe.co.uk or telephone Be Hulberton (01434) 605683.

THIS month’s pensioners’ lunch and natter will take place at the Bowes Hotel at 12.30pm on Thursday, August 20 – good food, good prices and excellent company and conversation!

No booking is required, just turn up and enjoy it.
