TICKETS are selling fast for what promises to be the scariest Halloween event yet at a Tynedale visitor attraction.

Staff at Brocksbushes are known for going to town with a string of popular seasonal events each year, but they really have upped the ante with their latest offering to mark fright night.

Mine Shaft Thirteen launched on October 19 and expands upon the popular haunted maze by incorporating a section of abandoned drift mine discovered in fields at the fruit farm.

Participants are collected from the car park by tractor and taken to discover what is left of an old mining village.

After being fully briefed on what they are about to encounter, those taking part are released into woodland and instructed to find their way through the haunted maze and mine shaft.

Whether they’ll survive the experience remains to be seen. But don’t worry, the event’s creative director, Ian Wharton, has transport on standby for when it all gets too much.

“It’s an immersive night so there will be those who can’t handle it and we have the ‘wimp tractor’ on standby,” laughed Ian.

“It’s all based on the theme of 13. So it’s running for 13 nights with 1,300 metres of maze and 1,300 feet of underground tunnels.

“We do warn that this is not for the faint hearted and certainly not for anyone under the age of 13.

“We like to try and come up with something different every year and it seems to have paid off.”

Ian and the team have been contacted by officials from ScareCON, Europe’s only trade show for the growing scare attractions industry, who have arranged to travel up from London to try the event out for themselves.

The event, along with a sold out event for children called The Great Pumpkin Robbery, has been sponsored by Slaley Hall.

It will run until October 31, with many nights already sold out.
