WATERLOGGED pitches won’t relegate sportsmen and women at Mowden Hall to the sidelines this year as the school begins work on a new, all-weather facility.

Work recently started on the new astro-turf pitch at Mowden Hall School.

The full-sized pitch will sit alongside grassed areas at the school, giving pupils access to sports facilities throughout the year.

Headteacher Neal Bailey said: “We’ve had so many matches cancelled throughout the winter because of waterlogged pitches.

“This will provide capacity for sports to be taking place all year round.

“We have had to outsource hockey sessions, now we will have our own training facility.”

It is estimated that the new development will take between eight and 10 weeks to complete.
