ACTIVITY ruled supreme when some 200 young entrepreneurs gathered to present their wares to be judged at a trade fair.

The 25th High Wycombe Young Enterprise (YE) Trade Fair and Awards brought teams together from 12 schools in a culmination of seven months' work by the Year 12 pupils, their link teachers and advisers.

Among the products on show at the fair on Wednesday, March 9, at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC) were individual handmade socks, scented candles, greetings cards, hand-painted tablecloths and place mats from South Africa and event photography.

Judges looked at various aspects of their companies, such as teamwork, problem solving and product development, before giving a short presentation to a packed main hall.

Goods on display from Genesis at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, in Marlow, included imported tablecloths and place mats hand-painted by women in the village of Zan Yeni Junior Secondary School which is also Borlase's link school in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

Money raised will be sent back to the school.

Peter Hill, from Urenco in Marlow, was an adviser for the team Spectrum at Great Marlow School.

He said: "They had a scrappy start but soon allocated themselves and soon worked well as a team."

Young Enterprise is a national charity that helps young people experience the practical aspects of running a small business.
