The Prudhoe Community Allotment has announced that it will be holding an open day on July 31.

It  was formed in 2000 after the Prudhoe Gardeners’ Association committee members recommended introducing “Access to All” allotments right in the heart of Prudhoe.

The site at Redwell Court in Prudhoe now boasts a healthy membership, as well as modern facilities and amenities, including a greenhouse, potting shed, several raised beds, and a summerhouse.

The facility is for everyone, with an emphasis on accessibility for less mobile members.

From gardening novices to experts, there are plenty of opportunities to learn and share skills and techniques as well as to enjoy the company of like-minded individuals over a friendly chat and a coffee.

Hexham MP, Guy Opperman, said: "It is an honour and a privilege to be a part of this truly special organisation.

"The volunteers at the Allotment have worked so hard over the years to completely transform a site that was going to waste, into something that is loved and cherished by locals here in Prudhoe.

"As we enter the warmer months, I would encourage everyone to get down to the allotment to try their hand with gardening. The group meet every Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 1pm and they are always looking for friendly new members."

Northumberland County Councillor for the area, Gordon Stewart, said: "I have been proud to support the team at the Community Allotment since I was elected as the local councillor for Prudhoe.

"I have seen the allotment go from strength to strength in the time since, and the small group of volunteers should be very pleased about the successes they have overseen. It is a real community benefit, enjoyed by so many locals."
