Ovingham residents create poem about village on frisbee

Michael started the poem off with two lines about the town then took a photo of it and posted its whereabouts on social media.

On the post - it asked people to find it and complete the poem then throw it somewhere accessible for everyone.

By the end of the day, Michael found the frisbee near Ovingham bridge.

Our town is looking good today,

I wonder what the birds in the trees say

Speaking about the poem, Michael said: "I write poems about things happening in the community.

"These are often about nature of issues facing people in the village.

"People have been really enjoying them, and I have been getting a lot of good feedback.

"It has encouraged the community to come together on several issues, such as the upkeep of Ovingham and Prudhoe, and also awareness about wildlife.

"One of the big community initiatives I have launched recetly was the poetry frisbee.

"To do this, I got a frisbee and wrote the first two lines of a poem on. I left it somewhere in Ovingham, with a pen, posted it in Facebook groups and encouraged people to contribute to the poem.

"By the end of the day, I found it, and village had written a poem, I would love this to be written about in the courant and the work I’ve been doing.

"The frisbee had made it from the Ovingham bridge to outside the local pub by people writing a line, and then throwing it to be written on by the next person. I think it was a very unifying and lovely idea. 

"I was surprised that people contributed, but even more surprised that I was able to find it. I took me ages to track it down.

"It’s definitely something I’ll do again, and people have been so kind with their messages."
