The RSPCA are urgently seeking new homes for shy cats who prefer to be exploring the outdoors rather than sitting on your lap.

The charity has pleaded for potential adopters to offer homes to these "farm cats" who may benefit from a more outdoor lifestyle.

These kinds of cats can adapt to several outdoor spaces such as smallholdings, riding stables, or even model villages, depending on their preference and comfort.

Dominika Jagoda, pet welfare expert at the RSPCA, said: "We love cats and their independent nature but unfortunately it can take longer to rehome a farm cat compared to a placid lap cat.

"However, we know there are lots of people out there who have plenty of space and room in their heart for a shy, or outdoorsy feline."

The charity is urging people to remember that not all cats are "lap cats" and that all animals deserve kindness and respect.
