To recognise the important role cuddly companions play in our lives, we asked readers to share a picture of their beloved pet on National Pet Day.
Every year on April 11, the UK celebrates the joy that pets bring into our lives and encourages people to help reduce the number of animals in shelters.
While many pets enjoy comfortable lives, loving owners and a high quality of care, this is not true for all domesticated animals.
According to information from the UK Parliament in 2019, an estimated 250,000 animals go to rescue centres each year.
So this year, why not make a difference and adopt a pet from your local shelter or head down to the nearest animal charity as a volunteer.
In the meantime, enjoy flicking through the first set of pets sent in by our readers.
