THE county's Police and Crime Commissioner visited a domestic abuse charity last month.

Representatives from Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services, based in Hexham, were delighted to host Northumberland's PCC, Kim McGuinness, on March 26.

The charity has supported anyone experiencing or affected by domestic violence or abuse for more than 20 years.

Diana Barkes, the previous High Sheriff of Northumberland and a trustee of the charity, invited Ms McGuinness to visit.

Lucia Bridgeman was appointed the new High Sheriff of Northumberland by the King in April.

Ms McGuiness has advocated for work to address domestic abuse and supported NDAS throughout her role as the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Kim met members of the NDAS team and heard in detail about the work they deliver to victims and survivors of domestic abuse throughout the county.

Ann Connor, NDAS' finance, funding and planning officer, said: ‘’The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner has been supporting our work since it started in 2012. It was great to welcome Kim McGuinness to our Hexham base and show her the vital work we do supporting victims of domestic abuse across the whole of Northumberland, both rural and urban.

"Their funding has enabled NDAS to pull in additional money for residents of Northumberland from national grant funders such as Children in Need and The National Lottery. Kim has been a great advocate for victims of domestic abuse and we hope to work with her in the future.‘’
