PRUDHOE Community High School’s adaptation of the well-known film and musical Grease is nothing short of a Broadway-worthy piece of art.

The characterisation was perfect. With the unbelievably accurate accents of those within the original film itself, the raw musical talent, the perfect dancing, and the comedic value throughout the performance were well worth the watch.

The modern take of Beauty School Drop Out, sung by James Gibson, had the audience crying tears of laughter adding a pantomime feel to the overall show.

On the other hand, the solo Hopelessly Devoted to You sung by Erin Davis had the audience sympathise with the character so much that tissues were necessary. The costumes for the cast were all handmade, specifically the ‘T-Bird’ and ‘Pink Lady’ jackets which were a perfect replica of that of the Broadway on-stage show.

The scene changes from the backstage team were so perfect you never noticed them enter and leave the stage. The set itself had a hand-made wooden car, so when the cast began singing the well-known song Greased Lightning the car’s working headlights lit up the stage introducing the scene in a flash.

Overall this show was enough to make the whole family laugh, cry, and smile. Even the cast, which consisted of students as young as 13 and as old as 18, seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves on the stage, the Arts department’s months of hard work from fundraisers to rehearsals genuinely paid off more than the school could ever imagine.

The North East should be proud this school is part of us and we cannot wait for the next production.
