A CHURCH hall could be renovated and become a new holiday let if plans are approved.
Haltwhistle Church Hall, on Main Street, could be refurbished and made into holiday accommodation if the planning application submitted to Northumberland County Council is approved.
The Church Hall, which was closed by church authorities in 2004 for health and safety reasons, now stands unused and requires rebuilding to be put back into use.
The design and access statement said: "The site sits on the corner of Main Street and Lanty’s Lonnen in Haltwhistle. To the south of the existing building is a generous car park. To the east of the building are further public car parking spaces.
"The client is keen to retain the existing character and features of the Hall with sensitive repair works made where necessary. The Hall has a small basement and two storeys above ground. The main hall is located on the first floor and has great windows."
It stands within the Haltwhistle Conservation Area but is not a listed building.
However, the heritage statement submitted with the application said: "There are several listed buildings within close vicinity of the site boundary including the grade I listed Church of the Holy Cross and grade II* listed Red Lion Hotel."
