A Northumberland couple enjoy wedding with close family and friends and hope to book honeymoon abroad in the new year.

Rachel,39, and Peter, 42, met on 'muddy matches dating website' on November 8 2018 and knew it was love at first sight - so they agreed to meet straight away in Morpeth the next day.

Rachel said: "On our first date, we had a Chinese then sat by the river.

"We talked for hours and it was like we had known each other for years. It was a lovely date."

Dairy farmer Peter decided emergency worker Rachel was the one and proposed to her on April 19 2020, the day before he moved to Manchester for work.

"We discussed it a few weeks before and went hunting for the perfect ring. I wanted something with history to it, an antique.

"We found a 100-year-old art deco style ring that you just fell in love with. When Peter proposed, he got down on one knee in my dining room after telling me how much he loved me. It was just us and was perfect."

Peter then gathered his friends and had his first stag do in Magaluf where he was dressed in a Sunderland shirt - despite being a 'passionate NUFC supporter'.  His second stag do was in Newcastle with family and friends who could not go to Magaluf and went out into the town after the match.

Rachel's first hen do was with work friends in Newcastle and enjoy an afternoon tea then for her second hen do, the bride-to-be enjoyed a bottomless brunch at Revolution de Cuba in Newcastle.

Finally, the day arrived and the pair got married at Horton Grange in Ponteland on November 8, 2023. The fifth anniversary of when the couple met.

Rachel said: "We had no theme but it was the people there that made the day.

"We had my best friend Kate for 15 years as my maid of honour, my daughter Matilda as a bridesmaid along with Peter's daughters Kaley and Khloe. We also had close friends Jill and Kayleigh in the bridal party.

"For our groomsmen, his dad Ian, Peter's friend Steven,  Peter's son as an usher along with Peter's brother-in-law, his newphew Jack, my sons Maximus and Elijah.

"Our service was at 1.30pm and after we were married, our drinks reception was champagne and Newcastle Brown Ale.

"We had 44 daytime guests and 150 guests joined us on the night time - which started at 7.

"We decided to change things up in regards to our wedding cake - as we had two. One traditional wedding cake made by my mother with a cake topper of a holstien cow and bulll. This was linked to all the tables named after Peter's favourite breeds of cows.

"Our second cake was 4x wheels of cheese which was a wedding gift from Northumberland Cheese Farm by my aunt.

"We then made our way to the dance floor for our first dance to 'Stand By Me by Ben E King. We then all enjoyed dancing with the DJ afterwards."

"We went to the Belsfield Hotel for four days for a mini-moon which was a gift from Peter's parents but we hope to go abroad next year.
