A HAYDON Bridge nursery has maintained its 'good' rating from an education watchdog.

Little Badgers Child Care, on the grounds of Shaftoe Trust Primary School, was handed the rating after inspection by Ofsted in December last year.

The early years setting offers full day care, out-of-school provision and wrap-around care for children from birth to aged four.

Inspectors judged the overall effectiveness of the nursery to be 'good', as well as the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.

The report said: "Children form very secure relationships with staff. They are happy and settled in a relaxed environment, where they feel at home.

"Children arrive happy and are keen to engage with staff and with their peers. Babies run to staff for cuddles and giggle with anticipation. Children demonstrate that they feel safe in the nursery."

The report also praised the nursery's safeguarding measures and said children with special educational needs and or disabilities are well supported to carefully track a child's progress and plan activities.

Staff also work well with one another and parents, the report said.

To improve, the report outlined how the nursery should: develop the use of techniques that encourage children to talk and express themselves to enhance their language and communication skills and develop the consistency of staff's engagement and interactions with children further to fully support and extend children's learning.

The nursery, which was registered in 2007, was last inspected in February 2017, when it was also described as 'good.'
