A MUAY Thai boxer from Haydon Bridge has taken another win.

Joe Welch took on Scotland's Charlie McGhee at the Walker Dome in Newcastle in an A-class bout as part of the Victory 10 promotions.

It follows an impressive show back in October when the self-employed joiner saw off Romania's Marian Lapusneanu at the Homeshow promotion in North Shields after a last-minute change in opponent after a fighter pulled out from injury.

The former Haydon Bridge High School Pupil, who fights under Sor Thanikul Muay Thai in Newcastle, took up the sport over 10 years ago after being influenced by his dad. His brother now also trains and fights.

Joe previously told the Courant: "All the training, dieting, sleeping well, not drinking - it's just who I am. It's my identity.

"It's one of them sports, if you don't love it, you might as well leave it. If you want to do something with yourself, you've got to love it like this."

This year, Joe has also won a British title and has earned one of the fastest knockouts.

In August, he saw off German opponent Nino Srdic in a Victory Promotions' Victory 9 co-event in front of a sold-out crowd.
