CHILDREN at a Prudhoe school celebrated their reading success along with one of their favourite authors.
Highfield Middle School invited children’s author Peter J. Murray along to open their revamped library on Wednesday.
The library has seen new books added and bean bags seats since the school launched an accelerated reading programme earlier this year. In July’s SATs results, 82 per cent of children reached the expected standard – above national average – thanks to the school’s work looking for innovative ways to encourage children to read.
Peter J. Murray, author of the popular Mokee Joe series, signed the children’s books and left personal messages.
English teacher, Alex Perrin-Hudson, said: “The children were really excited to meet him. He’s very personal and tvery heatrical, so they loved it.”
