A PLAQUE celebrating Hexham’s success in the National Rail Awards has been unveiled.

Hexham’s MP Guy Opperman was on hand to mark the occasion following the news that Hexham had been named the country’s Medium Station of the Year.

He praised the hard work of all staff at the station and its link to the Journey cafe, which encourages and supports adults with disabilities to experience working life.

“It is a fantastic partnership between Northern and Journey because they have added to what is a beautiful station in a wonderful setting. The cafe isn’t viable on its own as a commercial entity, so combining it with the station is a great way of making it work.

“The national award would not have happened if not for the great work to make the station look so good and if not for these fantastic people enhancing the experience.”
