HALTWHISTLE grandmother Eileen Roe is preparing to take part in a 40m abseil to raise money for Macmillan.
The charity is close to Eileen’s heart, after they supported her husband John through a short battle with cancer in 2014.
Eileen raised £500 for the charity by selling John’s poetry book last year, but is now going one step further.
She said: “My daughter, Jan, bought me an abseil experience at Cathedral Quarry near Ambleside for my 77th birthday and set up a JustGiving page called ‘Super Nan abseil’.
“The target is £500, but I think we can get more.
“I’m quite excited for it.
“I’m causing quite a stir because of my age, but that doesn’t matter. I’m fit and I’m looking forward to it.
“Macmillan are absolutely wonderful; they do an amazing job.”
