IT WASN’T just any Tom, Dick and Harry on the stage. It was members of the award-winning Queen’s Hall Theatre Club.

The club was celebrating success in the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) Northern Performance Awards as its production of Tom, Dick and Harry was named the best dramatic performance in Section 5, which covers large parts of the North-East.

The plot included the many farcical moments of the title characters, comically played by Aron Cooper, Will Thompson and David Nixon, under the expert directorship of club secretary Moya Holmes.

It was the club’s first success in the category since 39 Steps saw it clinch the title in 2014, and all involved with the club were delighted to be in the limelight once again.

Mr Nixon, the club’s treasurer, said: “The ceremony was a bit like the BAFTAs where they announce nominations and then the winners, and it was great to hear we had won. The area is divided into sections so it was a nice feeling that we were judged the best production from all the other shows the judges had seen.”

The production of Tom, Dick and Harry received positive feedback from the Queen’s Hall audience, with members saying they particularly enjoyed being involved in the play.

It was a tricky performance to be involved in, though, due to the frantic nature of the numerous farcical moments.

Moya said: “It was a bit stressful because there was an awful lot of lines that needed to be said at the right time.

“It was one line after the other almost immediately, and the next person’s lines depended on the other person. But it was great fun and such a laugh.”

The club has turned its attentions to rehearsing for its spoof production of The Hound of the Baskervilles, to run between November 30 and December 1. Tickets are on sale from Queen’s Hall Box Office.
