THE BEAUFRONT and District Fruit and Vegetable Association held its 94th annual show on Saturday.
Despite challenging weather and a reduction in the flower and vegetable classes, overall entries were up by 70 per cent.
Show secretary John Middleton said: “Overall, the quality of entries remained as high as ever, with everybody enjoying the day. The produce auction was a great success, raising £100 for this year’s chosen charity, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue.”
The introduction of an invitation for grandparents to enter with their families had an immediate impact, with the Douglas Family picking up the Harold Learman Family trophy. The prize for most points in the fruit, vegetable and flower classes went to Janet Browell; Melanie Douglas was awarded the prize for most industrial points. The most points in the open children’s classes was awarded to Toby Kidd.
