MEMORABILIA belonging to a former Newcastle United footballer is set to be auctioned off for charity at a Tyne Valley caravan park.

Barrasford Park Caravan Site holds an annual leek show and auction, with the proceeds going to charity – but this year, there’s more than just vegetables on offer.

Various items from Glasgow Rangers star James Tavernier will also be up for grabs at the auction on September 1, which is raising money for Daft as a Brush cancer patient care.

Albert Kemp, who is a member of the leek club, said: “Last year, I was diagnosed with cancer and I had to go from Sunderland to Newcastle for treatment.

“I learned about Daft as a Brush, and they came every day and looked after me on the journey.

“I’m a member of the leek club at Barrasford Park Caravan Site and every year we have an auction, with all the proceeds going to charity.

“Last year, we raised money for the Bradley Lowery Foundation, but this year we’re raising money for Daft as a Brush to thank them for helping me.

“I’m staying at Barrasford with my friends Joan and Brian Fidler. Their granddaughter is marrying James Tavernier, and he’s sending me some football memorabilia for the auction.”

Daft as a Brush provides staffed, custom made vehicles to transport cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy to and from hospital.

Trustee Derek Warren said: “It was our pleasure to help Albert at this difficult time.

“We are looking forward to seeing him in Barrasford on September 1 when Daft as a Brush will be present with two of our new ambulances.

“We would like thank Albert, his family and everyone at the caravan site for their kindness.”
