STRONG gusts of wind didn’t put locals off attending their village’s annual fun day last weekend.

The popular Ovi-Fun Field Day returned on Saturday, July 28, and it saw around 250 people head to Ovingham playing field for a packed day of fun and entertainment.

A drizzly start may have deterred some visitors, but families flocked to the event, and despite the large tent threatening to take off in the strong winds, a good day was had by all.

Jason the Juggling Jester entertained the crowds with his wit and juggling tricks, while Euphoric Circus impressed with their circus skills.

Welly wanging kept visitors busy and the winner was Chris Raey with a throw of 30.5m.

Meanwhile, in the popular wheelbarrow race, the family team of Louis and Ayla Wake took the title.

A tug of war brought the day to a close, with a team called the ‘baddies’ facing the ‘goodies’ and coming away triumphant.

A fun run, tower building contest, keepy uppy competition, mummy wrap challenges, inflatable assault course and a bouncy castle all kept visitors entertained.

Event organiser Phil Holden said: “It’s a well- attended event. Especially with the goose fair not being on at the moment, it’s good to have a community event in the summer and everyone seems to enjoy it.”

The day was funded with the help of sponsors including Northumbrian Water and Essity.
