CHILDREN at Park House Nursery, near Ponteland, had their very first driving experience as part of their ongoing road safety awareness campaign.

Following a visit from the police as part of the nationwide ‘Beep Beep’ day, Daniel Todd and Brian Thomas, from the children’s driving initiative Young Driver, visited the nursery with two of its Firefly cars.

Young Driver and Vauxhall Motors are partners in the initiative to promote road safety for children aged 18 years and under.

Nursery manager Julie Summerscales said: “The pre-school children and staff had a lovely afternoon driving the cars and learning about the importance of road signs.

“The experience certainly gave the children a big boost in confidence.

“It has also furthered their knowledge of road safety.”
