HEXHAM town councillor, Derek Kennedy, has won back his seat on Northumberland County Council in Thursday’s by-election.
The former Liberal Democrat, who held the Hexham West seat between 2005 and 2013, stood as an independent and received 501 votes after over 43 per cent of residents turned out the cast their votes.
He was followed closely by his Conservative town council colleague, Tom Gillanders, who received 454 votes.
Standing for Labour was another town councillor and former Hexham GP, Dr Nuala Rose, who received 200 votes.
Oakwood’s Anne Pickering stood as an independent and won the backing of 125 voters, followed by Green Party candidate, Lee Williscroft-Ferris, who received 89 votes.
In the town council by-election run alongside the county vote, Conservative Michael Allan was elected, with Mr Williscroft-Ferris second, and Lib Dem Peter Arnold third.
