IT worked for global sensations One Direction and Little Mix, so could it work for a couple of Tyne Valley teenagers?

Hit TV show X Factor spotted the individual talent of young singers and formed the aforementioned groups, to great success.

Instead of Simon Cowell pulling the strings, local vocal coach Julie Miles, of High Mickley-based Vocal Ovation, has thrown together the musical styles of Harry Weatherhead (14), of Stocksfield, and Harriet Hobrough (13), of Corbridge, in a new project called H2H.

The teenagers have been working with Julie as solo artists for years, but something in her clicked and she wanted to blend their two voices together.

And after two months of working as a duo, they will showcase their joint ability at a big concert when they provide support to North-East singer Channy Thompson’s headline show at Newcastle’s O2 Academy, on May 26.

While there are still some tickets available, the gig looks set to be close to full in the 2,000 capacity venue.

Harry said: “We have the same singing teacher and she thought we would be good together, and we did a song together, Let It All Go by Birdie, and it just went from there really.

“We only vaguely knew each other, so it was a bit sudden and it came to us a bit out of the blue, but we are finding that it is going well.”

Harriet said: “Our voices work well together and now we can cover more songs because of the vocal change.”

It all started for Harry, now a pupil at Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School, when he sang in a competition held at Corbridge Middle School.

One of his mother’s friends heard him sing and insisted he take singing lessons to develop his talent.

Now with 18 months under his belt, his voice is coming on really well and he is looking to take it to the next level.

For Harriet, she became involved in singing when a promising career in gymnastics ended after she fractured her back.

She was looking for a new hobby to occupy her time, and was encouraged to take up singing after impressing during a performance at her uncle’s wedding.

Late last year, she worked with musician Jordan Harris, who lives just outside of Corbridge, to produce a music video to accompany her debut single Dreaming Big .

Now the pair are teaming up to perform at one of the North-East’s biggest music venues next month, just their second gig together after performing one song at an event at Barrasford Village Hall, again supporting Channy.

Harry said: “I’m quite nervous about the O2 gig to be honest as there will be quite a lot of people there, but I am looking forward to it.”

Harriet said: “It’s a really good opportunity to get our sound out there to a larger crowd. We’ve got to say a big thank you to Channy for the opportunity.”
