INTERNATIONALLY-acclaimed vocalists will lend their voices to Hexham-based music charity Samling’s latest event.

British baritone Roderick Williams will lead a team of music experts in a public masterclass and concert at The Sage Gateshead.

Also sharing their expertise with the next generation of singers and pianists are renowned Australian soprano Yvonne Kenny and Grammy award-winning British pianist Christopher Glynn.

They will work with eight young Samling artists specially chosen by the charity as they embark on their careers as classical performers.

The concert at The Sage will be the culmination of a week of intensive coaching and a valuable ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse into the world of world-class performances.

Roderick Williams was recently named singer of the year at the 2016 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards.

He said: “I’m looking forward to this intensive course that will allow us to examine repertoire in real depth, giving us a proper chance to examine all manner of performance technique, a subject close to my heart.

“Samling attracts remarkable talent with highly individual skills to offer and I have no doubt I too will share and learn a great deal from working with them. I relish the opportunity to teach at this level.”

Soprano Yvonne Kenny has spent over 20 years as a member of the Royal Opera House and is currently professor of voice at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In his career, pianist, Christopher Glynn has collaborated with artists such as Sir Thomas Allen, Jonas Kaufmann, Dame Felicity Lott, Bryn Terfel and Sir John Tomlinson.

Since making his debut at Wigmore Hall in 2001, Chris has performed in major concert venues and festivals throughout Europe and North America.

The masterclass will take place on Saturday, March 11, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, followed by a 45-minute concert at 5.15pm.

Tickets are available from The Sage Gateshead, online or by calling (0191) 443 4661.
