Bumper crop of scarecrows

17 March 2017 3:58PM

PUT YOUR old clothes to good use this weekend and get stuck into an Ovington scarecrow competition.

The annual contest is organised by local food co-operative, Go Local Food.

Established in 2011, the East Tynedale co-operative farms a two-acre site at the Ovington nursery of Halls of Heddon.

Members pay monthly to receive a weekly delivery of vegetables.

And they are hoping that creative souls will provide them with a bumper crop of scarecrows to scare away the birds.

Judging will take place on Saturday from 10am to noon.

The competition will also include workshop activities for children and young people.
