AN artist with a love of landscapes will be launching his first book at Kirkharle Courtyard next week.

Following a conversation with John and Kitty Anderson of Kirkharle Courtyard three years ago, renowned artist Tim Scott Bolton has created a book of paintings depicting selected Capability Brown landscapes.

The book launch, which takes place on Saturday, June 4, is one of many events Kirkharle has been hosting to celebrate Capability Brown’s 300th birthday this year.

Tim loves to paint countryside estates, a passion which stems from his childhood explorations, when many large estates were becoming derelict

He said: “With so many estates now being restored, I was able to access about a third of those landscaped by Brown, from Alnwick Castle in the north to Burton Pynsent in the south.”

His book A Brush with Brown features paintings of more than 60 landscapes and includes a forward by HRH the Prince of Wales.

It will be available to purchase throughout the day and Tim will be signing copies.

He added: “We are seeing the Brown landscapes in their late maturity and certainly in a more magnificent state than he ever saw them in.

“The lofty trees we see now were only there in Brown’s imagination.”

Shropshire-born Tim was educated at Bromsgrove School then the College of Estate Management at London University, and has had an impressive career.

He painted part-time under English painter Ruskin Spear at the Hammersmith College of Art, worked in Kenya and has exhibited 10 solo shows at the Malcolm Innes Gallery in London.

In 1993, he opened the Summerleaze Gallery in Wiltshire to hold art courses and exhibitions and started teaching at the Maison du Chateau in Burgundy in 1994.

His work is held in many collections, including the National Trust and the private collection of Mrs J. Paul Getty.
