He tells us that the event was “The Amazing Feathers’ Inn Bogie Race” and dates back to around 1975. The bogies raced down the hill near the pub at Hedley-on-the Hill, which now forms the basic route for the Easter barrel race.
Sitting cradling their beers are the winners Richard Friars and Mick Carr, while second place went to Ian Watson and Alan Caspard on the left wearing helmets. Third from the left is Ian (Pong) Long, the landlord of the Feathers.
Sixth from the left is Tommy Stokoe, who provided a cattle lorry to bring the bogies back up the hill to Hedley. Third from the right is Andrew McCoull, second from the right, Rod (Ernie) Meek.
