Topping the sale was a tidy Limousin x heifer consigned by M/s WJ Scott Ltd, Low Leam, West Woodburn realising 220.5ppk and £1409.

Top price per kilo was also for a pen of Texel x from M/s TW Dinning & Son, Watch Currock at 223.8p.

LAST Friday, Hexham & Northern Marts had forward a small but quality entry of 136 store cattle at their weekly sale. The bulk of the entry consisted of cattle in the 10-15 month age bracket and the sale peaked at £1230 for a super Charolais cross steer at 14 months which had been bred at altitude by Robin Oxley, Colwell Hill, Elsdon. The leading consignment on the day was undoubtedly that from Messrs Thompson, Springwell Cottage, Tow Law who sold eight well-bred, well-presented Limousin cross steers at 12-14 months which peaked at £1215 to then average £1176 whilst three of their heifer sisters topped at £1145 to average £1140.

LAST Wednesday, Hexham & Northern Marts at Scots Gap Centre had a small but quality show of prime lambs, hoggs and cast sheep. A smart show of lambs averaged 192ppkg / £81.44 per head and the sale peaked at £92 for four Super heavy tight skinned Texel crosses from Austin & Jeremy Dodds, High House, Milbourne. These were followed at £91 by a pen of five similar lambs by the Suffolk Tup from David and Alan Johnson, Tuthill.

Dave Brodie sold smart Texel crosses at 41kg for 204.9ppkg and Messrs Johnson sold 43kg Suffolk crosses at 204.7ppkg. The majority of sorts sold well and greater numbers are required to meet demand.

Ewes sold to £60 for a pen of Hexham Blackfaces from Messrs Hunter, The Steel and the same for a single Suffolk cross for Ian Cairns, Wallington Broom House.
