HEXHAM and Northern Marts had an entry of 325 store cattle at their weekly sale on Friday. The entry again consisted of over half of the cattle being 18months of age and older. A full ring of buyers were again present and strong cattle maintained last week’s good rates but younger sorts were dearer on the week. The sale peaked at £1330 for a great Charolais x steer at 22months from regular consignors M/s Walker Brothers, Satley with six averaging £1303 per head. In the heifers the top price was £1215 for Charolais x heifers from Derek and Vince Milburn, Holling Hill and £1200 from Richard Tweddle, Grange Farm and British Blue heifers £1200 from M/s WR Sparke & Son, Little Swinburne. Once again no less than 103 steers and heifers realised £1000 or over per head through the sale.
