IT was a double whammy for a Whitfield farming family when they were awarded the two top prizes for their Limousin cross cattle.
The Lee family of Agars Hill, represented by father, Stephen, and son, Sam, won both the best Limousin cross steer and best heifer at Friday’s prize show and sale of Limousin cross sucklers.
Both were sired by a home bred sire going back to “Goldies Oswald” and from Agars Hill suckler cows, bred from pure Limousins crossed with a British Blue bull.
Steven and Sam received the George Stappard Memorial Trophy, for overall champion. The yearling bullock was knocked down to a Hartlepool buyer for £1,150. He also bought the reserve champion (the Lee’s heifer) at £10 more, £1,160.
Stephen, who is not one to blow his own trumpet, nevertheless confessed to being “very pleased.”
Meanwhile, last year’s winners, Messrs Robinson of Bog Hall, Capheaton, realised an even heftier £1,360 for their second place steer which sold to Ponteland purchaser, Ricky Alder.
