A TYNEDALE mum of two with a love of the countryside has turned her art skills into a new business.

Just a few months after taking the plunge and turning her life-long love of drawing into her first venture, Nadine Sutterby (44) from Hexham, has launched a website to showcase her work and secured eight retail stockists across the district.

“I’ve always enjoyed drawing but it wasn’t until March that I thought seriously about giving it a go and making it a commercial thing,” explained Nadine, who lives in the town with husband Phil (51) and sons Brandon (16) and Charlie (8).

“My dad Roderick Sutterby has sold paintings internationally, and has written books, so I’ve had pointers from him over the years. But I’ve always been one for doing things my own way and wildlife is certainly my preferred subject.”

After training at art college in Carlisle, Nadine, who mainly works in pencil and watercolours, has also tried her hand at everything from pastel sunsets to botanical scenes.

“I was brought up in Ninebanks so living in the countryside provided plenty of inspiration,” said Nadine.

A love of the Lake District in particular has made Herdwick sheep a favourite subject, along with hares and Highland cattle.

Framed prints as well as merchandise including mugs, coasters and cushions are currently available at venues including Wheelbirks Parlour near Stocksfield, Bellingham Heritage Centre and Allendale Forge Studios.

With a studio at her home, Nadine has already had a number of private commissions, and has plans to showcase her work at a number of events across the North-East and Cumbria this summer.
