WHEN it comes to learning about family history on the job, three generations of one family have set the bar in Tynedale.

Benjamin Madnick is the third generation of his family to work at Langley Castle since his grandfather, Dr Stuart Madnick, bought the property 30 years ago.

Dr Madnick worked at the castle when he purchased it, with his daughter Lynn and son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Heather, following in his footsteps.

Their 19-year-old son has just completed 12 weeks of work experience at his grandfather’s castle, working in the restaurant, bar, reception, housekeeping and the marketing department.

He also served as a tour guide on Langley Castle’s daily battlements tour.

Benjamin said: “I’ve loved working here in Northumberland and feel very at home at Langley. It has been a great experience and I hope to return soon.

“I think it’s really important for my family to understand how Langley operates and there is no better way to do this than working in various roles and being part of the team.”

Benjamin’s work experience coincides with Langley celebrating the 30th anniversary of his grandfather’s ownership.

Three generations of another family have also worked alongside the Madnicks, playing their part in Langley’s 666-year history.

Deputy manager Elaine Robinson joined the payroll 30 years ago as a part-time waitress.

Her daughter, Carla, is assistant manager and grand-daughter Shannon works on reception.

General manager Anton Phillips said: “We have enjoyed having Benjamin here and giving him insights into Langley, which will be different to those his parents enjoyed.

“We have other employees who are married or related to each other and believe that Langley Castle has a real family feel.”
