THE team responsible for staging Northumberland County Show has hired a new member.

Kerry Robson, of Little Black Hedley, near Shotley Bridge, joined Northumberland County Show organisers last week as new show secretary.

Kerry’s appointment follows the death of Vicki Ridley, treasurer and long-standing assistant secretary, just days before this year’s show.

The show attracts more than 25,000 people, making it a huge task to organise every year.

Kerry has worked in numerous organisations involved in agriculture, environment and rural affairs, including DEFRA and the Red Squirrel Trust.

Kerry said: “The Northumberland County Show is a highlight for farmers across the region, and gives the general public an opportunity to get close to all sorts of animals, and gain an insight into local rural life.

“I am so excited to be part of such a well-loved Northumbrian event that provides an amazing showcase for our region’s farmers and food producers.”

Kerry will be primarily supporting event organiser Judy Willis and the management committee in a wide range of tasks.

These include responsibility for administration and accounts, handling customer and trade inquiries, and being the first point of contact for members.

Northumberland County show is run almost entirely on volunteers, with Kerry’s position being one of only two paid positions.

Chairman James Wardle said: “Vicki gave the last nine years of her life to helping to make the show the success it is today. She will never be replaced, but we are very confident that Kerry brings a whole new range of ideas and experiences that Vicki would approve of.”
