If you fancy running your own business but don't want a start-up then this well-established catering operation may be suitable.

It's a fish and chip shop with a regular clientele and living accommodation above, situated in a residential area of a Tynedale village.

Maureen Steel and her husband Harry have running the successful local business for nearly 30 years and are considered very much part of the community in Haydon Bridge.

They have served fish and chips to customers who first started going there as children with their parents and who now take their own children in with them.

The couple are selling up as they wish to retire.

The ground-floor of the shop, in John Martin Street, has the sales area with associated fixtures and fittings. Owner accommodation is on the first and second floor and consists of a lounge, dining kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a back garden.

The business offers flexibility for a new owner. It could be run, as now, on limited opening hours with a strict menu or a new range of products could be developed. The existing equipment could be included in the sale, subject to an acceptable offer.

Selling agent Keith Pattinson says that based on 28 hours a week opening hours, turnover is approximately £1,800 to £2,000 a week. Net profit in the last three accounting periods ranged from £14,000 to £16,500.

The fish and chip shop in John Martin Street, Haydon Bridge, is for sale at £140,000. For more information or to arrange a viewing, tel. (0191) 425 1507 or email commercial@pattinson.co.uk
