MCR Property Group completed the purchase of the 230,000sq ft Hadrian Enterprise Park on Monday, from previous owner Trans Britannia Properties.
MCR has vowed to immediately start refurbishing the site’s unused and dilapidated buildings, and find new businesses to occupy them within six months. And the firm’s Ian Braithwaite is confident that the investment plan will lead to new jobs for South Tynedale.
He said: “The site is currently just 50 per cent occupied, and the empty buildings are in desperate need of attention.
“We want to turn things around quickly here, and turn Hadrian Enterprise Park into an appealing business hub.”
The firm operates nationwide and has a track record for breathing new life into industrial sites.
Use of the Haltwhistle site is currently restricted to light industry and office use, but Mr Braithwaite believes there is scope for retail. He explained: “I am aware that there has been talk of major retailers coming here in the past, and it hasn’t materialised. For us, it’s one step at a time. We’ve already brought contractors on site to clean out gutters, and we’re looking to improve pedestrian access, signage, and have also created a logo.
“We want to welcome the existing 22 tenant businesses who are already based here, see how we can help them, and look at how we can maximise the potential of the buildings here.
“If we can attract more interest in the enterprise park, then hopefully that will lead to jobs.”
Mr Braithwaite said he was keen to build bridges in the community. He is planning to speak to Northumberland County Council and Haltwhistle Town Council about the potential for the site.
Mr Braithwaite will regularly visit the site. However, the firm’s North-East based Alan Moy has been appointed as site manager.
