A WYLAM pub has welcomed two new owners who hope to put the village pub on the foodie map.

Paul Johnson and Kelly Hopkins have taken over The Ship Inn in the village

An award-winning chef, Paul had previously been working with Michelin star chef Nathan Outlaw at his pub in Rock, Cornwall, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Kelly was the manager of the historic Metropole Hotel in Padstow.

The couple, who met while both working at Close House Hotel and Golf Club, have now decided to return to the North-East.

The couple are putting an emphasis on locally-sourced food, with a menu which changes regularly based on the best seasonal ingredients.

Paul said: “We are a traditional British pub in the charming village of Wylam.

“We serve proper, tasty and wholesome pub food using the very best local and seasonal ingredients.

“We also offer a wide range of beers, real ales, quality wines and local spirits.

“Our service is friendly and relaxed.”

The pub also has a picturesque beer garden and four letting bedrooms.

The Ship Inn serves food from Tuesday to Saturday between midday and 2pm and 6pm and 9pm, and Sunday lunch midday to 4pm.
