A POPULAR pub at the heart of a North Tyne village has come up for sale.

Under the ownership of Tony Binks, the Barrasford Arms has become popular for its community presence and quality food – even earning a spot in the Michelin Guide for 2017.

But 10 years on from taking over the business, Mr Binks is ready to hand over the reins.

The country pub and restaurant, which dates back to around 1870, has a bar/lounge, one private and two public dining rooms, seven ensuite letting bedrooms and a detached, three bedroom cottage which can be used as owner’s accommodation. There is a fully operational kitchen garden with poly tunnel.

Mr Binks said: “It’s completely up and running and would be ideal for someone to come in and get going straight away.

“We’re very fortunate that we often get chosen for special events and on New Year’s Day; we are always packed, with people coming down from all over the North Tyne.”

Mr Binks has become a well- known character in the community, particularly over the 10 years he has been running the pub.

He added: “Eventually I will retire, but for now I will just catch up on all the things I don’t get to do, such as spending time in the house and going out for Sunday lunch.

“I will still be in the area though – I have a lot of friends here and my boys have grown up here since 1997, so I won’t be far away.”

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to sell the lease of the Barrasford Arms for £130,000 on a Free of Tie leasehold basis, with an annual rent of £15,250.

Business agent David Cash said: “The Barrasford Arms is a very well-established business, with an excellent reputation.

“It regularly hosts quoits tournaments, darts finals and vegetable competitions, so is a key hub for both the local and wider community.

“This would be a fantastic business for any kind of buyer, whether you’re an experienced operator or perhaps a chef looking for a new challenge.”
