AN INNOVATIVE Hexham engineering company has developed a new clamp handling system for underwater work.

Red Marine has fast-tracked the creation of a Subsea Clamp Handling System, developing the device in just eight weeks.

The system was commissioned by a US-based provider of subsea riserless light well intervention services.

With a load limit of 15 tonnes, the system will help install an umbilical clamp, also from Red Marine, during well intervention operations.

Between operations, the handling system can be used as a safe storage and maintenance location for the clamp.

Managing director at Red Marine, Joe Orrell, said: “We are extremely proud to have delivered such an efficient and effective system in the short time frame available.”

Given the location of the client vessel, the equipment was manufactured by Louisiana- based Bollinger Shipyards, with a Red Marine engineer on site to provide engineering support.

Joe said: “This project adds to our extensive portfolio of industry-leading clamp solutions and it again demonstrates how Red Marine can reduce programme duration, cost and risk by the rapid delivery of intelligent engineering solutions.”
