HALTWHISTLE’S Co-op store has closed for a £515,000 refurbishment which will give it a fresh new look.

The Westgate store closed its doors last week and will re-open on Thursday, July 27, offering a selection of fresh, healthy foods with plenty of products aimed at providing meal ideas.

Area manager Sean White said the store will also be fitted with self-service checkouts in addition to the traditional till counter.

He explained: “We are delighted to have made such a significant investment in our Haltwhistle store.

“It will have a great new look and we are looking forward to re-launching and serving the community.

“The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum and our ambition is to establish the store as a local hub, a real asset for the community. It is an exciting time for the whole team.”

A new look for the Haltwhistle store will also bring a funding boost for local community groups through the Co-op’s new membership scheme for customers.

Members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of own-branded products and services, with a further one per cent going directly to local causes in the community.

Organisations set to benefit include Haltwhistle Little Star nursery, Haltwhistle Senior Citizens Fund and Haltwhistle Gymnastics Club.

Mr White said there were multiple benefits of becoming a member of the co-operative scheme.

He added: “We want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op, and our members have an opportunity to make a difference locally. Simply by using their membership card when they shop with us they will raise much- needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”
