A HEXHAM-based engineering company has defied the odds by posting a strong financial year despite a downturn in the industry.

Red Marine has gone from strength to strength since starting up in 2008 with only three employees, and now employs 22 people.

Its promising financial year end results are a cause to celebrate for the firm, which has undergone significant changes throughout the past nine
years to keep up with industry trends.

When the industry was facing troubles in 2014, the firm, which started off in the offshore oil and gas sector, made the bold move to venture into new markets.

The team decided to pursue nuclear decommissioning and offshore renewables, and in early 2015, the firm invested in a state of the art test facility, four times the size of the previous premises.

With the oil price remaining at a stubborn low, Red Marine’s streamlined approach to delivering consultancy support, bespoke equipment and testing services has become increasingly appealing to companies within the sector.

Managing director at Red Marine Joe Orrell said: “We pride ourselves on working extremely closely with our clients and sharing our hard- earned knowledge and expertise to rapidly deliver engineering solutions that reduce project duration, risk and final costs.

“As we head into a new business year, we remain focused on further enhancing our offer and building our client base in new markets to drive the continued growth and development of Red Marine.”
