AN ALLENDALE angler has turned his hobby into a business after ditching the nine-to-five to set up shop.

Graeme Edwards opened Edwards of Hexham Ltd in December after leaving his job at a software company.

Formerly furniture shop Fat Giraffe, the shop at the bottom of Hallstile Bank specialises in equipment for fishing and shooting.

From rods and reels, to tackle and shotgun cartridges, Edwards caters for both novice and experienced anglers and shooting enthusiasts alike.

And with plans to sell shotguns and rifles, subject to becoming a registered firearms dealer, it seems the only way is up for the keen angler.

Graeme said: “My brother and I took over the premises in November and it was a quick turnaround to open in time for the Christmas trade.

“We tried to give the shop a warm feel. I wanted it to be a place where people feel comfortable”.

With a coffee area, sofa and a TV playing fishing videos, Edwards is more than just your average shop.

Business has got off to a great start and with the new angling season kicking off in February, it’s set to get even busier.

“I finished my job and thought what am I going to do now? Then I thought why can’t I turn my passion into a business? I absolutely love it, I’m living the dream,” said Graeme.

The shop sells top fishing and shooting brands such as Loop, Vision, Airflo and Harikla.
