FORTY two light aircraft took part in a spectacular charity fly-past along the River Tyne on Saturday, May 28, and set an unofficial world record.

Two gyrocopters, 18 fixed wing microlights and 22 flex wing microlights took off from Eshott Airfield near Morpeth, before meeting at the confluence of the North and South Tynes at Watersmeet near Warden, and turning east over Hexham, Corbridge and Prudhoe and on to Tynemouth.

The venture was chosen as a unique way of marking the 25th anniversary of Newcastle’s Streetwise Young People’s Project.
